Find out more about Lubiáns Bridge

The Lubiáns Bridge, located in A Revolta, in the parish of San Xoán de Carballo, is one of the great historic landmarks of Bergantiños and marks the boundary between the municipalities of Carballo and Coristanco. The bridge crosses the Rosende River, a tributary of the Anllóns, and is especially striking because of its narrow roadway, just over two and a half metres wide, making it one of the most distinctive historic bridges in Galicia.

Its history is closely linked to the old communication routes of the Costa da Morte. Some theories place here the passage of the possible Roman road known as Per loca maritima, although the exact origin of the current bridge is still debated by specialists. Local tradition has long referred to it as the “Roman bridge”, but other references point to a later construction, particularly from the 18th century, when it appeared in historic maps such as that of Tomás López.

The Lubiáns Bridge was part of the old royal road between A Coruña and Fisterra, an essential route connecting Bergantiños, Soneira and the Fisterra area. Its structure, with asymmetrical arches, a cutwater and a humpback profile, preserves the character of traditional road engineering. From Carballo, access is easy: follow the AC-552 for around two kilometres and take the signposted turn on the left to reach this key piece of the region’s historical heritage.
