But now, let’s see how to get the most out of Costa da Morte in just one weekend. The intention is to give you the feeling that you got to know this territory. But we assure you that, at the same time, you’d like to come back.
Friday afternoon: arriving in the area
We are going to do the itinerary arriving from the north, but we advise you to adapt it to the area through which you enter the territory. The truth is that in order to enjoy all the corners that Costa da Morte has to offer, you will have to travel in your own car. Don’t be afraid to cover a lot of kilometres, because the territory is very large and everything is relatively far away.
On Friday afternoon we recommend that you go to Caión, in the municipality of A Laracha, to see what the weekend has in store for you: sea and charming villages. This is just the appetizer. Tomorrow there will be many more.
For the evening, we recommend you head towards Carballo. There you’ll see the walls of the buildings full of murals, a display of urban art. Here you’ll find a wide range of gastronomic and cultural offerings.
Saturday: discovering the charming villages by the ocean
About fifteen minutes away from Carballo is Malpica de Bergantiños, a small fishing village. Enjoy a stroll around the port and see first-hand how fresh seafood arrives on land, which you can enjoy all weekend on your plate.
Take a stroll along the promenade overlooking the open sea. You can watch people surfing on this beach, so book a surfing lesson for the full experience!
About twenty minutes away, you’ll find the Roncudo Lighthouse in Corme, in the Concello de Ponteceso. This place is famous for being one of the most dangerous areas for barnacle pickers, who risk their lives collecting this precious product from the cliffs.

On the other side of the estuary is Laxe. There you can enjoy its beautiful white sandy beach and crystal clear waters. In this village you will find the curious Praia dos Cristais, where instead of sand you will find small glasses eroded by the ocean.

We encourage you to start your Sunday on the southern border. Start your day with a dose of adventure by climbing Monte Pindo in the Concello de Carnota, known as the ‘Celtic Olympus’. The climb will take you about three hours, but the views from the top, with panoramic views of the coast and the estuaries, are worth every step.
After this hike, we recommend a visit to the Ézaro Waterfall in the Concello de Dumbría, where the Xallas River meets the Atlantic Ocean, creating a unique waterfall in Europe. Not far from there you will find other smaller but equally beautiful waterfalls in the Concello of Mazaricos. One of the most outstanding is the Fervenza de Noveira.
The highlight of your weekend should be a visit to the Fisterra Lighthouse, the end of the known world in ancient times. Stroll along the cliffs as the sun sinks below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of gold and orange. It is an experience that encapsulates the magic of the Costa da Morte.
