CMAT and the Astrotourism Association set a shared roadmap to strengthen the Starlight Destination in Costa da Morte

On Wednesday, 5 November, the first meeting between the boards of CMAT and the Costa da Morte Astrotourism Association took place in Dumbría. The session aligned goals, launched joint actions across the geodestination, and accelerated the work toward the renewal of the Starlight certification, consolidating Costa da Morte as a benchmark for astrotourism in Galicia.

Key priorities included raising awareness of our nocturnal heritage, mitigating light pollution, and deploying a shared strategy for promotion and science outreach. The aim is to turn the starry sky into a sustainable year-round asset that creates opportunities for the region.

A central topic was the renewal of the Starlight Seal, essential to keep the geodestination certified as a Starlight Destination. Cooperation between CMAT and the Astrotourism Association will coordinate actions, training, and tailored tourism products (trails, observing activities, educational experiences) to meet the growing demand for star-focused travel.

The meeting also advanced preparations for the 2026 Eclipse—a once-in-a-generation opportunity that calls for planning, order, and clear public information. Both organisations highlighted takeaways from the 8th Starlight International Meeting in Soria (October), which they attended to promote Costa da Morte as a Starlight Destination.
