The CMAT – Costa da Morte Tourism Association presented this morning at the Casa da Cultura de Corcubión the new digital teaching unit about the Costa da Morte, an educational tool created to bring the territory closer to new generations.

The event brought together institutional representatives, school management teams and teachers from educational centres across the territory, in a meeting that marked the first step of the new educational project promoted by the CMAT. Through this initiative, the organisation seeks to strengthen collaboration between the territory and schools, encouraging students to learn about their surroundings, culture, nature and collective identity.

The teaching unit, developed by the company GOODLIFE Consultores, is especially aimed at the final cycle of Primary Education, although it can also be used flexibly at other educational levels. The resource allows different curricular contents to be worked on in a cross-cutting and contextualised way through interactive activities, videos, maps, games and small research projects, enabling students to discover the Costa da Morte in a dynamic, accessible and participatory way.

Throughout the unit, students work on aspects such as the territory’s nature and ecosystems, the sea and seafaring trades, historical heritage, traditions, museums, the Galician language, and the legends and spirituality of the Costa da Morte. All of this has a clear objective: for children to get to know the place where they live better and become the best ambassadors for the territory.

The CMAT highlighted that this project is based on the belief that “one cannot value or defend what one does not know”, and on the desire to make available to local residents everything that exists, not only in their own municipality, but also throughout the rest of the region. For this reason, the unit also aims to present the Costa da Morte as a shared, diverse and connected territory.

The teaching unit was created with the support of a grant from the Deputación da Coruña, whose institutional collaboration was highlighted during the event as essential to making this first educational resource possible.

The organisation also recalled that this is only the beginning of a broader project, as the CMAT will also receive funding from the GALP to develop new teaching units linked to the sea, fishing techniques, marine species and coastal conservation.

In order to make it easier for schools throughout the region to attend, the CMAT will hold a second presentation aimed at schools in the northern Costa da Morte this Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Escolas do Xardín Agra de Caldas, in Carballo.

The association underlined that this project seeks to turn education into a fundamental tool for continuing to build the future of the territory, helping younger generations to discover, value and feel proud of the Costa da Morte.
