The “Fagía de Carnés” is one of the oldest gastronomic festivals in Galicia. It was born in the seventeenth century with a very different format from the one we know today. At first it was an annual meal orchestrated by the local brotherhood dedicated to Saint Christopher, which from its origins had a large number of faithful. In 1832 the “fence” was built, a space designed solely and exclusively for the celebration of this date. At the end of the nineteenth century, and the beginning of the twentieth, it changed its format and opened its doors to those who were not part of the brotherhood. At first, this was motivated by charity, but it ended up evolving in 1981 to what you can experience today when you attend this event: a great culinary festival dedicated to tripe.
The “Fagía” is celebrated every July 9 in Carnés and continues during the following days with a great verbena.
