The CMAT Board agreed to award this recognition during the IV edition of the Costa da Morte Tourism Meeting.
ZAS, 28/10/2024. Bieito Romero Copo, founding member of the legendary group Luar na Lubre, will receive the distinction of Ambassador of the Costa da Morte on 12th November.
This award will be presented during the IV Annual Costa da Morte Tourism Meeting organised by the Costa da Morte Tourism Association (CMAT) and recognises the role of different personalities in the development of the Costa da Morte.
Luar na Lubre and the Costa da Morte
The long national and international career of the group Luar na Lubre is strongly linked to the Costa da Morte, both for the number of songs dedicated to them in the 38 years of their career and for the stories Bieito Romero tells in his concerts.
His life trajectory is closely linked to the territory. These, among others, were the main reasons why the CMAT Board decided to award him this recognition.
Among the most outstanding themes of Luar na Lubre, there are direct references to the localities of the Costa da Morte. They are well known pieces such as ‘Fisterra’, ‘Camino de Caión’, ‘Mártiros y el Vákner’ or ‘Camariñas’, this last one also covered by many well-known artists such as Julie Fowlis or Luz Casal. They also recorded their videoclip ‘The Sailors Hornpipe / Pasacorreidoras’ in Muxía.
Music that puts Costa da Morte in the world
Many of their concerts are outside the territory of Galicia. We are talking about a group with international recognition, which is an opportunity to value the richness of the territory that stand out in their musical pieces. According to the CMAT Board, many people got to know some places of the Costa da Morte through the music of Luar na Lubre.
