CMAT Deepens Knowledge of Tourism Management Best Practices on Its Second Day in Uribe

The CMAT continued its exchange visit in the Uribe region with a second day focused on sustainable tourism management and public-private collaboration. The program included Gaztelugatxe, the Camino de Santiago in Larrabetzu, meetings with representatives of the Bizkaia Provincial Council, and local tourism business owners. The experience provided new insights to help strengthen tourism in Costa da Morte.

Costa da Morte Tourism Association (CMAT) continued its exchange of best practices in the Uribe region, supported by the Jata-Ondo Association, with a second day focused on sustainable destination management, resource development, and public-private collaboration.

The day began with a visit to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, where the delegation learned about the visitor quota system using reservations to protect the natural environment and explored interactive panels designed to enhance the visitor experience.

The group then traveled to Larrabetzu to walk part of the Camino de Santiago and the Medieval Route.

A highlight of the day was the visit to the company La Gilda del Norte, where CMAT met with representatives of the Bizkaia Provincial Council:

  • Leire Sáez, Director of Tourism
  • Dicky del Hoyo, Communications Manager, Department of Transport, Mobility and Tourism
  • Aitor Apraiz, Technical Support, Department of Tourism

The visit covered innovative initiatives to promote local products and integrate them into the region’s tourism offering.

In the afternoon, the day concluded with a meeting with tourism entrepreneurs from Uribe —including hospitality, lodging, and active tourism— to discuss Jata-Ondo’s governance model that facilitates public-private cooperation, comparing it with CMAT’s current model.

An intense and inspiring day, providing CMAT with valuable ideas to continue strengthening tourism in Costa da Morte.
