The Foundation Torre – Pujales, a non-profit organization declared of Galician and national cultural interest, offers study grants to plastic artists from all over the world. It is an initiative that seeks to make the culture of Costa da Morte visible through the artists who come to Corme (Ponteceso), where both the Foundation and the Museum of Contemporary Art Costa da Morte (MACCMO) are located, closely linked to it.
The Foundation was created around the artistic legacy of the Coruña painter Julio Pujales, whose work is currently in the MACCMO. Cristina Torre, the painter’s wife, founded it after his death for the recognition and dissemination of his work but also as a cultural meeting point in Costa da Morte.
With this goal in the spotlight, the Foundation created scholarships that have already been enjoyed by more than 50 plastic artists from countries such as France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Russia, Holland, USA, Argentina, Brazil… It is these artists who become true ambassadors of Costa da Morte when they finish their stay in the flat-studio and return to their country.
Once again we observe how duality tradition – modernity is very present in the Costa da Morte. Both of them combine perfectly to offer an unique experience to the traveler to the traveler, which is immersed in a land with its own character, full of strength. Thus, in the fishing village of Corme we can find the Torre – Pujales Foundation, germ of the Contemporary Museum of the Costa da Morte ( MACCMO).
