Fisterra is history, legends, heritage, nature and the road. The Fisterra Lighthouse is the most outstanding point of interest in the town. The Cape at the End of the World, “Finis Terrae”, was a place of worship of the sun, and is a prominent site to watch the sunset. You can also visit the ruins of San Guillermo and the Holy Stones at the top of Mount Facho, where the lighthouse is located, a place full of legends.
The Castle of San Carlos, living heritage of the municipality, houses a Fishing Museum with guided tours to understand and learn about the importance of Galician fishing throughout history.
The Church of Santa María de las Arenas, in Romanesque style from the twelfth century, stands out in its interior for the images of the Santo Cristo de Fisterra, the Virgen del Carmen and Nuestra Señora de las Arenas. The church has a Holy Door, which allows entry to the temple during the events of the Holy Year.
The wild beaches of Mar de Fora, O Rostro and Arnela show the cliffs and the bravery of this area.
Fisterra has been a place of pilgrimage since the twelfth century. The link between Fisterra and the Camino is mentioned in the Codex Calixtinus, an essential text of medieval pilgrimages. Every year, more pilgrims come to our land, the end of their pilgrimage, where they are given the official certificate of End of the Camino called “Fisterrana”.
