Discover A Laracha

The municipality of A Laracha is located in the province of A Coruña, in the eastern part of the region of Bergantiños; It has an area of 126.3 km², where gentle mountains, valleys and beaches meet.

To the west it borders Carballo, to the east Arteixo and Culleredo, to the south with Cerceda and to the north with the sea in the port of Caión.

The AC-552 road crosses the entire municipality, including its capital, the town of A Laracha. The town is 2 km from A Coruña and 59 km from Santiago de Compostela.

The area stands out for its river walks, the beautiful beach of Caión with its Blue Path, the monastery of San Pedro de Soandres (10th century) and its hiking trails, where you can find curious vestiges both natural, where the Pedra da Cabirta, the largest abalar stone on the Costa da Morte, stands out. and historical, for example, the menhir of Erboedo. It is worth mentioning the high presence of forts in its territory, (that of Montes Claros is in the process of excavation) shows the rich historical past of these lands.

If you visit it, you can enjoy the Paiosaco fair (1st and 3rd Sunday of the month) and its festivals of tourist interest in Galicia: the Cherry Fair and the Pilgrimage of the Miracles of Caión.

Plans to do in A Laracha

  • Plan 1: Witness the sunset on the promenade of Caion, with the Atlantic Ocean and the Sisargas Islands on the horizon, enjoying the gastronomy with top quality seafood.
  • Plan 2: Walk along the routes of “A Laracha Activa” (also available in the wikiloc application), discovering unique landscapes and the ethnographic richness of the Anllóns rivers, with 2.5 km of river promenade, and Bradoso, with an approved route of 6 km in which the remains of nine water mills are concentrated.
  • Plan 3: Enjoy a day with the family in the recreational area of Gabenlle, enjoying the shade of the riverside forest and the waters of the Anllóns.
  • Plan 4: Visit the Feira de Paiosaco, which is held on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month, where a wide variety of products are marketed, highlighting those from the countryside and gastronomy, especially Galician.
  • Plan 5: Attend the Pilgrimage of the Miracles of Caión on September 8, which is declared of Tourist Interest in Galicia. The Sunday before that date is the procession of the image of the Virgin from the Church of Nuestra Señora del Socoro to the Sanctuary of Miracles; the following Sunday culminates with the descent. During this period, you can attend numerous religious events in the sanctuary and enjoy the various leisure and cultural activities.
  • Plan 6: Celebrate the Cherry Fair, in Paiosaco on the first Sunday of the fair in July. Declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in Galicia, the trade of gastronomic products is exalted accompanied by activities and musical performances.
  • Plan 7: Discover the history and ethnographic heritage of the area, where the importance of water mills in our geography stands out. This plan proposes hiking routes that can be done in the different river spaces of the Council; in “A Laracha Activa” (also available in the wikiloc application) you can find, for example, the “Muiñeira Route to the rhythm of the Acheiro River” in which various remains of mills are discovered; but they are also seen on the Paseo del Anllóns and in the surroundings of the Bradoso. These routes can be completed with a visit to the Interpretation Centre of the Water Mills of the Costa da Morte, Golmar Museum, which has the distinction of Blue Centre for Environmental Education.
