CMAT – Costa da Morte Tourism Association, in collaboration with the Galician Tourism Agency, is promoting the installation of visitor counters at various strategic locations throughout the destination, with the aim of gaining a better understanding of tourist flows and moving towards data-driven management.
The device at Vimianzo Castle, which has been operational since 9 October, is one of four counters installed this year under the agreement. During this initial period, it recorded an average of 192 passages per day, with a maximum of 478 in a single day.
The system automatically counts people passing through and distinguishes their direction of travel. Data can also be accessed through a digital platform providing information on daily, weekly and hourly visitor flows.
CMAT intends to continue gradually expanding this network, with the aim of establishing a counting point in each of Costa da Morte’s 17 municipalities, at strategic locations that will provide a more comprehensive picture of visitor movements. This information will help identify the busiest locations, analyse seasonality and support better-informed, more intelligent decisions.
An agreement that also supports the sector’s annual gathering
In addition to installing the counters, the agreement between the Galician Tourism Agency and CMAT also supports the annual Encontro de Turismo da Costa da Morte, a gathering for professionals, businesses and institutional representatives to analyse the region’s tourism situation, share experiences and review the sector’s performance.
