The CMAT discusses a common model for the Costa da Morte with the motorhome sector

The board of directors of the CMAT – Costa da Morte Tourism Association met this morning in Camariñas, in a meeting hosted by the mayor, Sandra Ínsua.

Taking advantage of the board meeting, the organisation also held a working session with the vice-president of the Asociación Galega de Autocaravanas (AGA) with the aim of analysing the current situation of motorhome tourism in the Costa da Morte and moving towards a common position among the different municipalities in the territory.

The president of the CMAT opened the meeting by explaining that the issue of motorhomes is a concern that several municipalities have been raising within the association for some time, especially due to the need to unify criteria and actions across the territory. In this regard, he expressed the CMAT’s full willingness to work hand in hand with the sector to “identify the problems and seek joint solutions”, stressing the importance of collaboration between municipalities and users themselves, promoting this type of tourism in an orderly and organised way.

For his part, the vice-president of AGA explained that one of the main difficulties detected by the group is the lack of specific areas for motorhomes, as well as the limited capacity of municipalities to monitor compliance with existing rules and regulations.

The Galician association also stressed that they themselves are the first to be interested in ensuring that rules are respected, avoiding uncivil behaviour that could create a negative image of their activity. In this regard, they defended motorhome tourism as a form of travel with the capacity to reduce seasonality, generate economic impact in the territory and attract a profile increasingly linked to quality and respect for the destination.

The meeting served as a first starting point to review the relationship between the Costa da Morte and motorhome tourism, and to analyse possible ways of improvement adapted to the territorial reality of the 17 municipalities that make up the CMAT.

As a next step, both parties agreed to hold future working meetings with the aim of moving towards a framework document that could serve as a reference for municipalities when establishing regulations and criteria that are as homogeneous as possible throughout the territory.
