Area Longa Beach—also called Area Grande—in Reira is one of Camariñas’ most iconic beaches and a regular contender among the top shores on the Costa da Morte. This open Atlantic coastline blends fine sand, raw scenery, and an endless horizon, making it one of the most photographed spots in the area.
Getting to Area Longa Beach is straightforward. There is a spacious parking area where you can leave the car with ease, and motorhomes often park nearby. Clear signage leads you to the main access point, well integrated into Reira’s natural environment.
A wooden boardwalk brings you onto a long stretch of pale, fine sand; depending on the year, you may find some rocks along the edges—typical of open-ocean beaches. Waters are usually clean and crystal-clear in summer and the beach rarely feels overcrowded. When conditions are right, it’s common to see surfers enjoying the waves.
Views of the Faro Vilán lighthouse from Area Longa are spectacular, especially at sunset. Keep in mind that the Reira beaches currently lack basic facilities such as public restrooms, changing areas, and lifeguards. Enjoy this natural paradise responsibly: come prepared and leave it just as pristine as you found it.
