Women have always been central to life in rural Galicia. Through farming, care work, local knowledge and the traditions they pass on, they help sustain communities across generations. To celebrate these contributions, Muxía Town Council is hosting a gathering ahead of the International Day of Rural Women, observed each year on 15 October.
On Wednesday, 14 October 2026, the former village school in Quintáns will host a conversation bringing together experiences from women who live, care for others, work or have worked in rural communities. The gathering will highlight their role in agriculture and other primary-sector activities, the local economy and the preservation of rural heritage.
This is a chance to listen to personal stories, acknowledge work that is too often overlooked and celebrate the women who have shaped—and continue to shape—the villages of Muxía on Galicia’s Costa da Morte.
A welcoming space for conversation, shared memories and recognition of the women who keep rural life thriving.
