On Friday, May 16th at 7:00 p.m., the event “From Rosalía to the Cantareiras” will take place at the Bela Muxía Hostel, as part of the 2025 Galician Literature Day celebration focused on traditional music and the role of women singers known as cantareiras.
The evening will feature performances by the pandeireteiras groups from the People’s University of Corcubión, As Xaviñanas and As Rinchonas, who will present a repertoire deeply rooted in Galician folk culture. The aim is to bring the expressive power of traditional music closer to the public through the voices and rhythms of the pandeireteiras.
This year’s celebration will pay tribute to Eva Castiñeira Santos, a traditional singer from Muxía, acknowledging her contribution to preserving and passing on Galicia’s intangible cultural heritage. The event is organized by the Xervasio Paz Lestón Cultural Association and the People’s University of Corcubión, with the support of the Provincial Council of A Coruña.
