On Friday, 18 September 2026 at 6:00 pm, the Salón de Actos Culturais do Concello de Laxe will host a screening of the documentary “Ao son da nova Regueifa” as part of the Outono das Artes cultural programme.
The event offers an accessible introduction to regueifa, one of the most distinctive forms of Galician oral tradition, built around improvisation, wit and dialogue through sung verse. The documentary explores how this cultural practice remains alive today, evolving and finding new voices among younger generations.
“Ao son da nova Regueifa” brings audiences closer to a form of popular culture deeply rooted in Galicia. Beyond its musical dimension, regueifa is also conversation, collective memory and shared creativity: an oral tradition renewed every time performers improvise, challenge one another and reply in verse.
The screening in Laxe is an opportunity to learn more about this tradition and to understand why it continues to inspire contemporary cultural creation. It is particularly appealing for visitors interested in traditional music, Galician culture, intangible heritage and documentary storytelling.
The screening is part of the Outono das Artes programme and adds a new cultural event to the calendar in Laxe and the Costa da Morte. It is a chance to approach a long-standing oral tradition from a contemporary, lively perspective connected with new generations.
Organised by: Deputación da Coruña. With the collaboration of: Concello de Laxe.
