Its construction is due to the philanthropist born in the town at the end of the eighteenth century, Don Fernando Blanco de Lema, who in his legacy left abundant funds for the construction of a primary and secondary school, the current Fernando Blanco Institute.
The school-institute is a work of great architectural beauty in an eclectic style built at the end of the nineteenth century. Inside, it is worth contemplating the library of incalculable value for the richness and quality of its collections, and the chapel where the remains of the founder are deposited in a white marble mausoleum. In addition to this building, we can enjoy the fantastic botanical garden that surrounds it, which has the presence of centenary specimens of various species brought from different parts of the world.
