The Afiando Fouciños film series opens in Baio with a session devoted to the Río do Porto and the memory of Terra de Soneira. On Saturday 26 September 2026 at 7:00 pm, the Auditorio de Baio will host the presentation of O río do Porto, o río grande da Terra de Soneira, a documentary produced by the Seminario de Estudos Comarcais da Costa da Morte (SEMESCOM).
The film continues SEMESCOM’s research and outreach work on this river, an important natural, historical and cultural reference point in Terra de Soneira. The audiovisual project follows the book of the same title, published in 2019, and explores the river’s course, its history and the evolution of its name.
The documentary gives particular attention to the historic name Río do Porto, documented for centuries, and to the later spread of the name Río Grande from the 1960s onwards. By combining historical explanation with a close reading of the landscape, the film brings audiences closer to a heritage deeply connected with the identity of this part of the Costa da Morte.
The session will feature Evaristo Domínguez Rial and Xosé María Lema Suárez, members of the SEMESCOM board; Lema Suárez is also the documentary’s screenwriter. The event will be moderated by Manuel Muíño Espasandín, mayor of Zas.
Afiando Fouciños was launched in 2026 as a new initiative linked to the VI Premios Fouciño, taking place in Baio from 22 to 24 October and focusing this year on Galician animation. In the weeks leading up to the awards, the series features four documentary screenings in Baio and Zas centred on memory, culture and the realities of the local area.
After this opening session devoted to O río do Porto, the programme will continue with 360 Curvas, Crónicas dun Non and Deuses de Pedra.
