Find out more about V Travesía Costa Fisterra 2026: open-water swimming at Langosteira

Fisterra once again hosts one of Galicia’s most distinctive open-water swimming events. On Sunday 6 September 2026, the 5th Travesía Costa Fisterra Duacode will bring the 2026 Travesía Costa Circuit to a close, with 140 swimmers taking part over two distances: 1,500 and 4,000 metres.

The event combines endurance sport, Atlantic waters and the dramatic landscape of the Costa da Morte. Langosteira Beach will be the focal point of the day and, according to the latest update from the organisers, will host both the starts and finishes of the two races.

Travesía Costa Fisterra 2026: 1,500 m and 4,000 m

The 4,000-metre race is designed as a demanding challenge for experienced open-water swimmers, while the 1,500-metre distance offers a shorter way to experience swimming in the Atlantic. A safety buoy is compulsory in both races and wetsuits are not mandatory.

The organisers have announced a route change for the long-distance race. Following a mechanical problem with the boat intended to transport swimmers to the traditional start beneath the Fisterra lighthouse, the 4,000-metre race will instead start and finish at Langosteira Beach. Participants and spectators are advised to check the latest official information before travelling.

V Travesía Costa Fisterra schedule

  • 09:30–10:30: race-number collection and preparations for the long-distance event.
  • 10:45: 4,000 m race briefing.
  • 11:30–12:30: race-number collection and preparations for the 1,500 m event at Langosteira.
  • 12:45: 1,500 m race briefing.
  • 13:00: start of the short-distance race.
  • 14:00–14:30: trophy presentation.

Schedules and routes may be adjusted for organisational, sea or safety reasons.

Experience Fisterra from the Atlantic

Beyond the competition itself, Travesía Costa Fisterra is an excellent opportunity to enjoy the coast, support the swimmers and discover Fisterra from a different perspective. The event highlights the coastline as a destination for sport and tourism while celebrating the municipality’s deep connection with the Atlantic.
