Cances hosts the 22nd Festa do Pichorro on Saturday 29 August, a local celebration where traditional food, Galician music and community life come together. The event centres on one of the area’s most distinctive seasonal foods and offers an evening with a strong sense of place.
The star of the evening is the pichorro, tender white corn on the cob roasted over the fire and served alongside classic Galician favourites including broa corn bread, pork belly, boiled potatoes and chorizo. Food service begins at 9:00 pm.
The programme starts at 8:00 pm with traditional music by Gaiteiros de Cances, followed by the opening of the marquee at 8:30 pm. The evening also includes the 13th traditional corn-shelling championship using a sickle handle, a distinctive competition rooted in the area’s agricultural heritage.
The celebration continues with dancing led by Judith Cundins, rounding off an evening that blends food, music and local tradition at the Cances Social Centre.
Organised by Asociación Cultural San Campio de Cances with the collaboration of Carballo Council.
