On Saturday 22 August from 11:00 am, Forcado Beach in O Ézaro (Dumbría) will host A Arte no Ézaro, a participatory historical reenactment that brings an emblematic image of the village’s maritime memory back to life.
The event recreates the scene of the sebolleras of O Ézaro photographed by Ruth Matilda Anderson in 1924. A century later, local residents, visitors and photography enthusiasts are invited to reinterpret the image while celebrating the intangible heritage linked to the sea, collective work and everyday life on the Costa da Morte.
There are two ways to take part: join the reenactment on the beach or photograph the scene from the sand or the seafront promenade. Onions, the sea and the strong sense of community captured in the historic image will once again be central to the event.
Anyone wishing to appear in the photograph is encouraged to wear clothing inspired by the early 20th century. Dark colours are not essential because the final photograph will be in black and white; the main recommendation is to avoid shiny or obviously modern-looking garments.
After the photographic reenactment, a sardine feast will be held for participants, rounding off the day with another tradition closely connected to the maritime culture of Galicia.
