Holy Week 2026 at Virxe da Barca will once again bring together local residents and visitors around a religious programme taking place on 29 March, 2, 3, 4 and 5 April at this sanctuary in Muxía. Deeply rooted in tradition and in the observance of these dates, this event offers a special way to experience Holy Week in one of the most symbolic places on the Costa da Morte.
The programme will begin on 29 March with Palm Sunday, including the blessing of the palms at 11:30 am in the parish church and a procession to the sanctuary, followed by Holy Mass, as well as another mass at 6:00 pm. On 2 April, Holy Thursday, there will be confessions from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7:00 pm and Holy Hour at 8:30 pm. On 3 April, Good Friday, there will be adoration turns before the Monument from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, confessions from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and the Celebration of the Passion of the Lord followed by the procession of the recumbent Christ at 7:00 pm.
The programme will continue on 4 April, Holy Saturday, with veneration of the recumbent Christ from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and the Solemn Easter Vigil, with the blessing of fire and water, at 9:00 pm. Finally, on 5 April, Easter Sunday, the Solemn Easter Mass will be held at 12:00 pm, followed by another mass at 6:00 pm. Holy Week 2026 at Virxe da Barca is therefore presented as an event marked by spirituality, tradition and the symbolism of this emblematic sanctuary in Muxía.
