Cee will host a particularly interesting cultural event for anyone curious about maritime history and the memory shaped by the coast. On April 3, the Francisco Mayán Municipal Library and the Caneliñas area will become the setting for a programme linked to “The Whaling Footprint in the North of the Iberian Peninsula”, featuring Álex Aguilar and, in one of the scheduled activities, Asunción Borrell. It will be a valuable opportunity to explore a past that left a deep mark on Cee and across Costa da Morte.
The programme will begin at 12:00 p.m. with the talk “Caneliñas, the factory that brought an end to a thousand years of whaling in the Cantabrian Sea”, led by Álex Aguilar and Asunción Borrell at the Francisco Mayán Municipal Library. At 12:30 p.m., the same venue will host the presentation of the book “The Whaling Footprint in the North of the Iberian Peninsula”, with Álex Aguilar. Later in the day, at 4:00 p.m., there will be a guided visit to Caneliñas and its surroundings, also led by Álex Aguilar, completing a programme designed to offer a deeper understanding of the historical and heritage value of whaling activity.
Places for the guided visit are limited, so advance registration is required through the Department of Culture by calling 981 745 100, extension 3, or by emailing victor.castineira@cee.gal. This programme makes “The Whaling Footprint in the North of the Iberian Peninsula” in Cee a highly worthwhile cultural event for discovering, with greater context and insight, the connection between Caneliñas, whaling history and the seafaring identity of this part of the Galician coast.
