Zas is a land of palatial constructions, as treasured by the numerous palaces, among which is the first palace in Galicia, the Torres do Allo. Together with the palaces of Romelle, Follente and the Edreiras they form the route of the palaces.
The municipality of Zas is crossed by several rivers that form numerous waterfalls and in which there are numerous mills. To discover this richness, in the parish of Gándara the PR-G250 Ruta da Auga de Zas route was designed.
Literary tradition places in Zas, according to the work of Eduardo Pondal, the tomb of the brave Brandomil, a Celtic warrior. This tomb would be none other than the dolmen of Arca da Piosa, one of the most monumental and best preserved dolmens in Galicia.
Brandomil is a real open-air museum, because the town is full of Roman remains that can be seen with the naked eye walking through it: bases, capitals, column shafts, altars, funerary stelae and other Roman remains. We cannot forget the Old Bridge of Brandomil, the road that passes next to it and the archaeological site of Pedra do Altar. There are many excavations that have been carried out in recent years and in which large quantities of material, sigillata pottery, coins, etc. have been found.
Zas has always been a land of traditions, we can highlight the traditional sandwiches of Santa Margarida with more than 400 years of history, that of San Roque do Monte, whose brotherhood was created in 1565 or the disappeared San Pedro do Allo. All of them have in common the nearby location of a miraculous water fountain. But if we talk about festivals we cannot fail to mention the Carballeira de Zas and the Carballeira de Baio. The first, declared of Tourist Interest in Galicia, is a folkloric festival attended by thousands of people every year. The other, brings together friends and neighbors year after year in a natural environment made up of around 300 oak trees, declared the Senlleira Formation.
It is also worth mentioning that, in Zas, there is the viewpoint of Pico de Meda, which with 566 meters of altitude is the highest point in the region and from which we can observe the entire Soneira valley and the horizon beyond the Sisargas Islands to Mount Pindó. We cannot forget that from here we have, every afternoon, beautiful sunsets.
