Trasufre once again welcomes one of its most deeply rooted gatherings of faith and tradition with the Novena to Our Lady of Aránzazu, locally known as the Virgin of the Espino or Santiña de Trasufre. From 11 to 21 September 2026, the sanctuary in this village of Muxía will host eleven days of prayer, Mass and shared devotion among the parishes of the local Pastoral Unit.
The celebration reflects a Marian devotion with a strong place in the collective memory of the Costa da Morte. Beyond the liturgical programme, these days bring together local residents, families and visitors from across the region around a sanctuary closely linked to the identity of Trasufre.
From 11 to 19 September, the daily programme begins at 6:00 pm with the Rosary and Novena, followed by Holy Mass at 6:30 pm. Each day also welcomes worshippers and visiting parishes from the Pastoral Unit.
On Sunday, 20 September, a Solemn Mass for Saint Margaret will be celebrated at 1:30 pm, one of the key moments in the programme leading up to the main feast day of the Santiña de Trasufre.
On Monday, 21 September, the main celebration in honour of Our Lady of Aránzazu, Virgin of the Espino, will take place. Masses are scheduled for 9:00 am, 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 12:00 noon and 5:00 pm. The Solemn Mass and procession will begin at 1:00 pm.
An opportunity to visit Trasufre with respect for a living religious tradition that continues to bring generations together and preserve one of Muxía’s most distinctive Marian devotions.
