Galicia’s tradition of improvised verse is alive, evolving and finding new voices. On Sunday 25 October 2026 at 5:00 pm, the auditorium of the Casa da Cultura da Picota in Mazaricos will screen Ao son da nova regueifa, a documentary exploring the contemporary life of one of Galicia’s most distinctive oral traditions.
Regueifa is a playful form of spontaneous verse in which performers exchange rhymes, wit and ideas. Directed by Manolo Maseda and Saúl Rivas, the film travels across Galicia to meet the people taking this tradition into fresh settings and generations. Through music, personal stories and improvised words, it reveals a heritage that keeps changing because people continue to practise it.
The screening is included in Outono das Artes, a cultural programme by A Coruña Provincial Council, with the collaboration of Mazaricos Town Council. It is a chance to experience the creativity and living spirit of Galicia’s oral heritage.
