A Laracha no tempo: five guided tours of A Laracha’s historic heritage

A Laracha no tempo is a programme of five guided tours exploring the historic heritage of A Laracha through a chronological journey across some of the places that best explain the municipality’s development, from its Castro-period past to the ethnographic heritage of traditional watermills.

Organised by A Laracha Town Council, the programme brings together archaeology, religious architecture, maritime history and traditional culture in five visits taking place from late August to September.

Five guided visits through the history of A Laracha

• 26 August, 6:00 pm — Castro de Montes Claros. An introduction to Castro culture and the earliest known communities to have lived in the area.
• 2 September, 6:00 pm — Monastery of San Pedro de Soandres. A visit to one of A Laracha’s most important architectural landmarks, whose origins date back to the 10th century.
• 5 September, 12:00 pm — Chapel of Santa Margarida de Montemaior. A tour of the chapel and its surroundings, including a spring traditionally considered miraculous and a former pilgrims’ hospital, now used as a sociocultural centre.
• 12 September, 12:00 pm — Caión. A walk through the streets, buildings and public spaces of this coastal village to understand its historical development and long-standing connection with the sea.
• 19 September, 12:00 pm — Costa da Morte Watermill Interpretation Centre, Golmar. A visit focused on ethnographic heritage and the traditional operation of watermills.
