The Camariñas Town Hall will host a celebratory extraordinary plenary session and a tribute to Luz Casal on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, marking her appointment as an Adopted Daughter of the municipality. The session will be open to the public and the singer will attend in person.
Camariñas Town Council will grant her its highest distinction in recognition of her artistic career and her role as an ambassador for the town. Her iconic rendition of the traditional song “Camariñas” has carried the town’s name to audiences around the world and to some of the most prestigious concert halls.
The song, recovered from oral tradition and established as a folk classic by Luar na Lubre in the late 1990s, gained a new global dimension when Luz Casal added it to her repertoire. In her voice, it became a link between Camariñas, the sea, its local community, the Galician diaspora and music lovers everywhere.
Born in Boimorto, the artist received the news with emotion and gratitude, describing the distinction as “a tremendous honour”. Through this appointment, the council and the people of Camariñas strengthen Luz Casal’s lasting bond with the land of lacemakers.
