The “Mens” album launch by Icía Varela in Mens 2025 will take place at the parish church of Santiago de Mens (Malpica), showcasing the first solo record by the singer from Cerqueda, Malpica. In the year when the Galician Literature Day honours the traditional cantareiras, Icía follows up her key books Cantareiras and Pandeireteiras with a musical project that captures the traditional sounds of Costa da Morte, which she has already taken as far afield as Japan.
“Mens” is conceived as a tribute and gesture of gratitude to the Velliñas de Mens, the women who kept the local singing tradition alive. The album will be presented on Saturday, 20 December at 7:00 p.m. in the church of Mens, with very special guest collaborations and free admission until full capacity is reached. A unique opportunity to hear Icía Varela live and share an evening filled with emotion, memory and cultural identity.
