Find out more about Naufraxio de Laxe

The festival of the “Naufraxio” is a tribute by the people of Laxe to the Virgen del Carmen for her protection and help to the sailors. Its origin is due to the figure of Avelino Lema Santos, a sailor who survived three shipwrecks, who promoted it from the beginning in 1962. Here you can attend the performance of the “Shipwreck” in which some sailors capsize on their return after a day of work. Three of them manage to reach land where the image of the Virgen del Carmen awaits them. However, a fourth does not succeed and will have to be rescued and later resurrected by the image of the Virgin herself who works the miracle.

The cultural festival of the “Naufraxio” is held in Laxe on August 17.
