The Virxe da Barca Pilgrimage Festival 2026 will once again turn Muxía into one of the major gathering places on the Costa da Morte. From Friday 11 to Monday 14 September, the town will celebrate four days of tradition, music, culture, devotion and festivities around one of Galicia’s most emblematic popular celebrations.
The programme combines religious events linked to the Sanctuary of Virxe da Barca with major orchestras, live concerts, fireworks, afternoon music and popular celebrations across Cabo da Vila and the streets of Muxía.
At 8:00 pm, in Cabo da Vila, the official Virxe da Barca opening proclamation will launch the celebrations. It will be followed by a concert by SES as part of the Deputación da Coruña market «A paisaxe que sabe».
The market will remain open throughout the four days of the festival. From 10:30 pm, the night will focus especially on younger audiences with 9Louro, Disco Móbil Impacto and Orquesta Bomba.
Saturday’s main night will feature two major dance orchestras: París de Noia and Orquesta Fuego. At 12:30 am, one of the most anticipated moments of the festival will arrive with a large fireworks display.
At 1:00 pm, the traditional Mass of Virxe da Barca will be celebrated. It will be followed by one of the festival’s most spectacular traditions: the firing of what is billed as Galicia’s largest firecracker chain.
After the vermouth session, the celebrations will continue in Cabo da Vila with afternoon music until 7:00 pm featuring Mar Dávila. In the evening, Satélites and Orquesta Magos will keep Muxía dancing.
Our Lady of the Boat will return to her Sanctuary in one of the most moving moments of the celebration. At 12:00 noon, the Mass at the Sanctuary of Virxe da Barca will take place.
The four-day festival will close with music from Olympus and Escaparate.
Virxe da Barca is far more than a programme of performances. It is a celebration deeply connected with the identity of Muxía, the Atlantic, the Sanctuary and local tradition. Four days to experience the Costa da Morte through emotion, music and shared celebration.
Because A Barca is not something you simply tell. It is something you live.
