Malpica Carnival 2026

Malpica Carnival 2026 takes place from 7 to 22 February, spreading the festive spirit across Malpica, Buño, Cerqueda, Seaia and Vilanova. Street parades, school activities, children’s parties, live music, fancy-dress competitions and traditional rituals make this one of the most authentic carnivals in the Costa da Morte.

Designed for families and friends to enjoy together, Malpica Carnival 2026 includes everything from the Cocido Campol fancy-dress meal and the Mikaela celebration in Buño to the colourful children’s events in Seaia and Vilanova, the historic Madamitos and Ghuardineros in Cerqueda and the symbolic burial of Faustino in Malpica.

• 7 February | Saturday – Buño
  4th Cocido Campol with prizes for the best costumes at Cantón da Roca restaurant and a DJ party afterwards. Organised by AC Campol.
• 13 February | Carnival Friday – Malpica
  School Carnival parades by CEIP Milladoiro and CEIP Joaquín Rodríguez Otero through the streets of the town in the morning.
• 14 February | Carnival Saturday
  Cerqueda: Children’s fancy-dress party at the Pozacas Sociocultural Centre in the morning (AC Raigañas).
  Malpica: Street vermouth session, afternoon parade of groups and costumes, support service for children, traditional doughnut stalls and a big night-time street party with music in the local pubs, plus a costume contest with Carnival hampers for the best outfits.
• 15 February | Carnival Sunday – Malpica
  Performance by Charanga ACDC in the streets, children’s fancy-dress parade, gathering of groups and costumes in Eduardo Vila Fano Square with prize-giving, and an evening piñata contest in the same square.
• 16 February | Carnival Monday – Malpica
  Morning children’s tombola at Malpica Sports Hall with games and surprises.
• 16–18 February | Monday to Wednesday – Seaia
  Carnival 2026 activity days at the Seaia Culture Centre, featuring games and workshops for children aged 4–12, organised by ACD Carcaxía.
• 17 February | Carnival Tuesday – Malpica
  Children’s fancy-dress party with inflatables at Malpica Sports Hall, with music and entertainment.
• 18 February | Ash Wednesday – Buño
  Storytelling afternoon and Carnival snack with “Contos para cagar patatillas” by Brais das Hortas, a fun way to say goodbye to Carnival.
• 21 February | Piñata Saturday – Buño
  Celebration of A Mikaela including a vermouth session, afternoon parade of the Mikaela figure, hot chocolate and doughnuts, and a late-night DJ session in Santa Xusta Square and nearby areas, organised by the Friends of Mikaela Association.
• 22 February | Piñata Sunday
  Cerqueda: Procession of the traditional Madamitos and Ghuardineros around the parish (AC Raigañas).
  Vilanova: Children’s fancy-dress party and tasting of Carnival sweets at the community centre.
  Malpica: Street performance by Charanga DGT and the Burial of Faustino, starting at the Civic Centre and ending at the harbour.
