On 5 and 6 September 2026, Santiago de Arcos in Mazaricos hosts the 4th Burla Verde Gathering, a weekend devoted to exchanging ideas, experiences and practical knowledge about protecting the land and the future of rural Galicia. Community groups, specialists, artists and local residents will come together for talks, round tables, literature, theatre, music, crafts and shared meals.
The programme begins on Saturday 5 September at 10:00 with a legal workshop on defending land through formal objections, legal aid and appeals before Galicia’s High Court of Justice. This will be followed by an environmental forum bringing together different voices involved in land defence and, at 12:00, a talk on the risks associated with reversible reservoir systems.
The day continues with a vermouth session and folk music, a communal lunch, traditional improvised verse and the Territory Forum, where collectives, platforms and associations will have the floor. There will also be a walk from Arcos to A Ruña, an audiovisual screening and, from 22:30, live music by Yas de Luaces, Zeltia Ireverie and Baralhete Sound System. A traditional products and crafts fair will run throughout Saturday.
Sunday starts at 10:30 with a coffee round table focused on people who live and resist in their territories. At 11:30, “Un Monte todos os Montes” will be presented, followed by a writers’ meeting on literature and territory. Theatre by Grupo Trola is scheduled for 13:00, followed at 14:00 by the closing session with the pandeireteiras of the Mazaricos Housewives’ Association. The weekend concludes with a communal lunch at 15:00.
Sunday morning will also feature a book fair and signing sessions. The event is an opportunity to discover Santiago de Arcos while taking part in a gathering that brings together Galician culture, music, environmental awareness and community life around one central idea: caring for the land and keeping rural communities alive.
