The cruceiros are one of the most typical elements of the Galician landscape. Stone crosses that sanctify the place where they are located, commonly church atriums, cemeteries or roads marking the limit of parishes or town halls. They are sacred objects, not just monuments, that were erected for devotional, prayer, or offering by people who sought to win divine favor and protection for their parish or for themselves. Nowadays their religious symbology is being lost and they are placed in a purely decorative way.
They consist of several perfectly differentiated parts: the base, a platform formed by several steps and a pedestal on which the column rests, pole or shaft and above this the capital, which can have very diverse decorative motifs and, as a fundamental element, the cross. It is in this part where we find the representation of the Descent or Unnailing of Christ in five cruceiros. Four in the province of La Coruña, all of them near the town of Noya, and a fifth, the most famous, in the province of Pontevedra. We are going to see them moving from north to south of Galicia
