On August 14 and 15, the parish of Calo, in the municipality of Vimianzo, will once again become a festive gathering point with the 15th edition of the Castrobuxán Country Picnic (Merenda Campestre). This summer celebration, now a staple on the Costa da Morte calendar, blends religious tradition, quality food, live music and fun for all ages in a scenic and rural setting.
On Thursday the 14th at 9:00 PM, a procession with the Virgin will depart from the Church of San Xoán de Calo towards the Hermitage of Castrobuxán, where a field mass will be celebrated. After the mass, at 10:30 PM, free chorizo will be offered to everyone, followed by a lively open-air dance with singer Begoña García. On Friday the 15th, a solemn mass at 1:00 PM will be followed by a big country-style lunch featuring grilled meat (churrasco), omelette, pie, cheese, traditional cake, ice cream and more. There will be bouncy castles for children and a midday performance by Dúo Calú.
At sunset, the traditional queimada ritual will be held, followed by performances from the folk dance group “Airiños do Río Grande” and a bagpipe band. The evening will continue with more live music from Dúo Calú and Dúo Maracaibo. Tickets are available at various locations in Vimianzo until August 8 or until full capacity is reached. A perfect summer plan to enjoy nature, culture and the festive spirit of Galicia.
