Well, you are in luck, because in this article we will take you on a tour of some of the best hidden gems of this territory. It is true that we will not take you through hidden passages and that the word ‘secret’ is a hyperbole.

The secret beaches of Costa da Morte are almost any beach that is not in an urban centre. The territory of Costa da Morte, which stretches from A Laracha to Carnota, is very extensive. Its sandy beaches are also very extensive and it has a very small population. What does this mean? That you can be practically alone on almost any beach.

Today we will take you to some of the most recommended, but not best known, beaches. Although, take a look at the map and follow the routes, you can find many more!

Important reminder! The beaches of Costa da Morte are pure Atlantic and not knowing them can be a risk. If you decide to swim in one of these beaches, don’t trust them. If you see that no locals are bathing, don’t do it either or, if you do, don’t go where it covers. We want you to enjoy every corner, but we want you to do it carefully as we know how dangerous our coastline is.

Lariño, Carnota

In the south, Carnota beach gets most of the fame, but Lariño beach is just as impressive and well worth a visit. A kilometre and a half of sandy beach, with a small lake and views of Monte Louro, gives the feeling of having fallen into a beautiful film.

O Rostro, Fisterra

One of the most famous beaches in Fisterra is Langosteira beach, which is located in the estuary area and is quiet and perfect for swimming. Another of the most iconic is Mar de Fóra, from where you can see magical sunsets and enjoy nature in all its splendour.

But the one we come to recommend today is outside the typical itineraries and is also a tremendous natural explosion. When you are on the beach it is almost impossible to see the beginning or the end of the beach. It’s just you and the vastness. This beach is, as we have already mentioned in the title, O Rostro.

Lires, Cee

Lires is a village between Cee and Muxía with a small beach. At low tide you can cross from Nemiña, which is a fifteen minute ride by car. However, you have to be very careful, as the tide comes back in quickly and you can’t swim across because of the current.

Lires Beach is perfect for those looking for a family beach day in a peaceful setting. Here, the river Castro meets the sea, forming a calm estuary ideal for a refreshing swim or a relaxing stroll. In the area, you can also find small bars where you can enjoy good fresh fish and seafood after a day’s rest.

Nemiña, Muxía

Just a stone’s throw from Lires beach at low tide and a quarter of an hour’s drive away is Nemiña beach. It is still a bit of a secret beach for most of the population, although it is by no means a hidden gem for the surfing community, who are well aware that there is a diamond here.

It is a very long beach in an idyllic setting. In an uncrowded environment, you can have a drink and watch people surf, or even take a lesson to learn how to surf yourself!

Reira and Trece, Camariñas

Between Cabo Vilán and Monte Branco there are a number of beaches that are a natural treasure. Reira Beach is famous among photographers for its rock formations and the possibility of seeing seabirds in their natural habitat.

Trece Beach is famous for its untamed nature and proximity to the Englishmen’s Cemetery, a reminder of the region’s historic shipwrecks. Dunes and native vegetation envelop the beach, creating a unique landscape. It is important to note that, due to the currents, this beach is ideal for enjoying the scenery rather than swimming.

Beaches from Traba to Soesto, Laxe

These two beaches are quite a virgin and surfer’s paradise, although you have to have a lot of knowledge to enter their waters. But the secret beaches are all the small sandy and pebble beaches that connect them. In a walk of just a few kilometres you can find different gems and choose your favourite to spend the afternoon.

Walk, breathe and enjoy the surroundings. This is what the Costa da Morte is all about.

Rebordelo, Cabana de Bergantiños

One of the most impressive phenomena that can be experienced in Costa da Morte is the Milkysea or bioluminescence. And one of the beaches where it has been seen the most in recent years has been Rebordelo beach (also in Carnota).

There is no way to predict when it will appear, just being in contact with local photographers or following our Instagram account (@visitacostadamorte) will help you predict if that night will be a good one.

However, if you’re approaching the beach and the sea isn’t sparkling, look to the sky. One of the most magical points of our territory is its night sky, which makes us a Starlight Destination. Seeing the stars while listening to the sea is always worthwhile, whether there is Milkysea or not.

Costa da Morte is not only synonymous with legends and shipwrecks; it is also a corner of the world where nature unfolds its beauty in a serene and spectacular way. If you are looking for a different experience, far from the crowded beaches, venture to discover these hidden paradises and let yourself be enveloped by the magic of this coast.

Another way to discover all the hidden beaches along our coastline is to take the Camiño dos Faros hiking route, which follows the entire coastline for 200 kilometres from Malpica to Fisterra. In this way, it will be impossible for the Costa da Morte to have any secret beach that you do not know.

If you decide to visit any of these beaches and upload photos to Instagram, tag us on the account @visitacostadamorte where you can also be inspired by those who have already felt the magic of this space before.

Do you want to know which are the secret beaches of Costa da Morte?
