Its origins date to the twelfth century, although eighteenth-century alterations left the building with features from both periods. The church has a single rectangular nave and a square chancel. Its intimate scale and position within a rural settlement evoke the role parish churches played as gathering places for generations of local families.

Much of its architectural interest lies in the medieval features that survived those changes. The triumphal arch between nave and chancel reflects the Romanesque tradition, while carved corbels can still be seen beneath the roofline. An earlier round-arched side doorway, now blocked, has also been documented. In the chancel, the Baroque altarpiece shows how a twelfth-century church could be enriched and adapted to the artistic tastes of later centuries.

Santa Mariña lies in a part of Mazaricos crossed by the Camino de Santiago route towards Fisterra and Muxía, adding another layer of meaning to the visit. Surrounded by villages and farmland, it offers a chance to discover local heritage away from the busiest coastal destinations. Whether you are following the pilgrimage route or exploring the countryside by car, pause to examine its stone details: small traces of a history stretching back more than eight hundred years.

Discover Santa Mariña das Maroñas Church and the religious heritage of Mazaricos on the Costa da Morte.

[312
248
post-88533","contenido","type-contenido","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","concellos-contenido-mazaricos-en","categorias-contenido-arquitectura-religiosa-en
["GET
