It stands on a <strong>square platform with a single step<\/strong> and a <strong>chamfered square pedestal<\/strong>, beside a <strong>stone table<\/strong> that hints at offerings and prayers from long ago. Weathered by the <strong>Costa da Morte<\/strong> winds, it keeps watch over pilgrims and locals alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the base rises an <strong>octagonal shaft<\/strong> that <strong>starts in a square section<\/strong>, bearing a concise inscription: <strong>\u201cA 1797.\u201d<\/strong> Above sits an <strong>octagonal capital<\/strong> with a <strong>plain astragal<\/strong>, an <strong>abacus with curved sides and chamfered corners<\/strong>, and a restrained repertoire of <strong>volutes, faces and lobed-edge leaves<\/strong>\u2014all small signatures of skilled stonemasonry and time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The monument is crowned by an <strong>octagonal cross<\/strong> with <strong>floriated finials<\/strong> and a <strong>central boss<\/strong>. On the <strong>front<\/strong>, <strong>Christ crucified with three nails<\/strong> shows <strong>open hands<\/strong>, the <strong>head inclined to the right<\/strong>, <strong>no crown of thorns<\/strong>, and the <strong>INRI<\/strong> cartouche above; the <strong>loincloth<\/strong> is <strong>knotted to the right<\/strong>. On the <strong>back<\/strong>, the <strong>Virgin in prayer<\/strong> stands with <strong>hands joined<\/strong> upon a <strong>plinth<\/strong>.
