{"id":63546,"date":"2024-05-23T11:06:54","date_gmt":"2024-05-23T09:06:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/great-goldberg.213-199-36-195.plesk.page\/post\/st-marks-church"},"modified":"2024-09-17T19:56:22","modified_gmt":"2024-09-17T17:56:22","slug":"st-marks-church","status":"publish","type":"contenido","link":"https:\/\/visitacostadamorte.com\/en\/post\/st-marks-church","title":{"rendered":"St. Mark&#8217;s Church"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This church has been declared an &#8220;Asset of Cultural Interest&#8221;.\nThis temple preserves Romanesque remains in the main chapel, as well as in its corbels.\nMost of the construction belongs to the Gothic period, which from the beginning of the fourteenth century was built in several stages.  <\/p>\n\n<p>At the beginning of the eighteenth century, the chapel of Socorro and that of Carmen were added.\nWhen the French sacked the town, a fire destroyed the entire interior of the church.\nThroughout the nineteenth century, the bell tower was affected on three occasions by various lightning strikes; of these, the most serious occurred in 1885, coinciding with the feast of San Jos\u00e9, which caused three deaths and more than 60 wounded.\nIn addition to the tower, it affected the fa\u00e7ade and the roof.\nThere are several different versions of the origin of San Marcos de A Cadeira, which is preserved inside.    <\/p>\n\n<p>The church is organized in a rectangular hall plan, with a single nave, and a rectangular main chapel.\nThe nave is divided into four sections by three pointed arches with edges.\nThe arches rest on semi-columns, topped with capitals decorated with schematically carved leaves.\nThe nave has a gabled wooden roof.\nThe Main Chapel is covered with a cupuliform vault (of Byzantine influence) that goes on diagonal ribs turned on elbowed columns.    <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This church has been declared an &#8220;Asset of Cultural Interest&#8221;.
